Study Away Site: Paris

Home Campus: New York

Class Year: 2025

Major: Media, Culture, Communications

Which Violet Ready Skills did you develop while studying away and how will they support your future goals?

Networking: I was able to practice networking skills through unique site visits, such as the Louis Vuitton retail store. I was able to network in both an individual and group setting, greatly improving my communication skills.

Career Awareness: Because I was away from New York, I was forced to look beyond the regular options of someone who was doing a communications major. Once again, the site visits helped me consider a career in sales, and I was able to apply my communications skills through applying for English-teaching and English immersion jobs.

Intercultural and Global Fluency: Through living and immersing myself in a different culture, I have developed skills that allow me to read and fit in with a different culture much better. Furthermore, I have an increased appreciation for diversity and the different ideas that people can bring from different cultures.

How might your experience gaining global perspectives while studying away impact your perspective as you enter the workforce?

Studying away has made me consider the different places I could see myself working in. Previously, I had only considered somewhere in North America, however, through studying abroad in France, I have realized that it is possible for me to work in France in the future. Additionally, I have realized that I am much more comfortable with moving around and adjusting to new cultures than I previously realized, meaning that I will now be more comfortable taking roles that require frequent travel.
