Which Violet Ready Skills did you develop while studying away and how will they support your future goals?

During my time away in Sydney, I had several moments that impacted and provided me with violet-ready skills. During our required Industry and Community Project, not only did I gain communication skills by working with University of Sydney students, but also networked with people in different career paths and industries. Our project focused on finding solutions to equity gaps within the Australian college admissions system and it definitely opened my eyes to global issues of equity and accessibility in higher education. While studying away, I was introduced to different work cultures and found immense opportunities at NYU and in the world. I not only feel better prepared to find jobs and continue to explore my career but I find myself excited about the opportunities outside our amazing New York campus.

How might your experience gaining global perspectives while studying away impact your perspective as you enter the workforce?

My time away has definitely changed the way I see opportunities. Moving forward I am much more open to moving and working with much more diverse companies and employers. Studying away has extensively prepared me to work alongside people with different interdisciplinary approaches. My time abroad has left me with an insatiable need to continue to learn and explore, hand in hand with my Gallatin concentration. It is something I definitely recommend and look forward to.

Tell us about a course or leadership experience you participated in during your time abroad, and how this relates to your career development.

My Industry Community Project was a requirement during my time away and it was a position where as an international student my input placed me in a position of leadership. We pitched an AI chatbot to help first-generation ESL students in the admissions process. In this position, we teamed up in groups and developed ideas and solutions. Being a leader in my group prepared me to take on higher positions in my future career, I learned to better manage time, ideas, and people in order to get better outcomes. This project also helped me better understand diverse concepts of higher education and equity, as well as communicate in a work setting.
