Hiring for a variety of job and internship opportunities continues to prosper on Handshake. In our November 2020 data, we saw top postings related to the industries of healthcare, internet & software, non-profits, and research, among others. Additionally, the top job functionalities for postings consisted of data & analytics, engineering – web/software, and engineering – civil/mechanical/other, along with other functionalities. 

The top employers who posted to NYU on Handshake in November included the likes of Verizon, Tesla, and IBM. Furthermore, some of the top employers in November were also among the top for December, including Riverside Community Care, Inc., Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, Pfizer, Inc., Sandia National Laboratories, and BASIS Charter Schools.

Similarly to the past several months, there were some decreases in full-time job and internship postings from November to December. However, there was an increase in the number of part-time jobs, as this increased from 178 in November 2020 to 203 in December. 

Top Employers Seeking NYU Students

Below, you can find the ten employers who created the most opportunities with NYU on Handshake in December 2020.

The roles that these employers posted ranged in functionality, including the likes of crises counselors, 

statistics interns, and digital strategists. When compared to previous reports, the employer with the most postings created this past month increased their new postings from 59 in November to 68 in December. More employers increased their postings count from November, including the likes of Safe Horizon, a social assistance organization that provides services for victims of crime and abuse in the nation. In comparison to November, Safe Horizon increased their postings by 35 (17 postings created in November 2020; 52 postings created in December 2020). The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center also increased their postings in December 2020 from November 2020, jumping from 12 to 35. 

Furthermore, some employers who had not created postings in November, posted a large number of opportunities on Handshake in December. While some of these employers were not among the top ten, their numbers still indicated sharp increases. These organizations include the likes of W. W. Norton & Company (0 new postings in November 2020; 22 new postings in December 2020) and Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (0 new postings in November 2020; 20 new postings in December 2020).

Overall, the top job functions primarily remained the same in December 2020 as they were in November 2020. However, one job functionality grew to the top ten that was not among those in November: healthcare services. Additionally, for some of the areas among the top in both November and December, their posting numbers still increased, including Education / Teaching / Training (556 to 663).

In comparison to November 2020, we saw an increase in December 2020 postings for some industries, including K-12 Education (195 postings to 282 postings), Investment / Portfolio Management (109 postings to 122 postings), and Pharmaceuticals (78 postings to 95 postings).
