Hiring for a variety of job and internship opportunities continues to readily increase on Handshake. In our July 2020 findings, we saw top postings related to the industries of non-profits, K-12 education, and research, among others. Additionally, the top job functionalities were related to Sales, Finance, and Data & Analytics. The top employers who posted to NYU on Handshake in July included Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, BASIS Charter Schools, and Akuna Capital, along with other organizations.
Taking a look at our August 2020 Handshake data, there were over 1,940 unique postings created this past month with a total of 3,319 postings created for NYU students and alumni that were approved and/or expired. Both numbers demonstrate an increase from hiring trends over the summer, including a jump from the nearly 1,500 unique postings in July 2020 and 2,753 postings created that were approved and/or expired.

The roles that these employers posted ranged in functionality, including product managers, sales interns, campus recruitment coordinators, social impact interns, and statisticians, among other areas. Additionally, when compared with our previous reports, the employer with the top postings this past month increased their postings from 14 in July 2020 to 94 in August 2020. Furthermore, some employers with the top amount of postings in July 2020 landed among the top for August 2020 too, including BASIS Charter Schools, Procter & Gamble (P&G), and Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education.

The following indicates the top ten industries with the most job and internship postings on Handshake in August 2020. This refers to the field/industry that the overall organization/company fits into. On Handshake, you can also utilize filters to narrow down your job/internship search to working in specific industries.
In comparison to July 2020, we saw an increase in August 2020 postings for all of the top 10 industries, including the likes of Internet & Software, CPG – Consumer Packaged Goods, K-12 Education, Investment/Portfolio Management, Government – Local, State & Federal, Research, Electronic & Computer Hardware, and Management Consulting. In particular, the total postings for Internet & Software nearly doubled from July 2020 (70 postings) to August 2020 (132 postings). Additionally, the total postings for Management Consulting jumped from 37 in July 2020 to 72 in August 2020.
