Take a peek into what it’s like to work for Long Island Nets, Brooklyn Nets NBA G League Affiliate in New York !
Name: Josh Frohlinger
Major: Sports Management with concentration in Organizational Management
Year: Senior in Fall 2017
Position: Business Operations Intern at Long Island Nets, Brooklyn Nets NBA G League Affiliate
Q: What time do you come to work?
A: I come at 9:00 a.m.
Q: What is the first thing you do after arriving at work?
A: I check my emails for any assignments that I have or meetings for the day. Then I check in with my supervisor to let her know I am here and see if there is anything I need to do or she needs my help with.
Q: How would you describe your work?
A: As a Business Operations Intern, I feel lucky to be able to touch all aspects of the team’s front office. If the sponsorship, marketing, or ticket sales department need help with any project, I help them out. It’s really great not being assigned to a specific department, because it really allows me to learn what goes on in many aspects of NBA Front Office.
Q: What time do you end your work?
A: I end at 5:30 p.m.
Q: What is your lunch time and/or break time scene like?
A: I generally take lunch at about 1 PM. At the Long Island Nets there are two other interns besides myself, so we take lunch together every day and take a little break. We work in Long Island at the Nassau Coliseum and since there aren’t many places to eat around there, we need to drive to places every day to get food. But it’s a great time to get to know the other interns.
Q: What are some things that you enjoy at work?
A: I really enjoy my internship. My dream career is to work for an NBA team so this is the perfect place for me to intern and establish my foundation for the future. Additionally, the projects I have been assigned to do are extremely interesting and enjoyable, so the work doesn’t feel tedious or dull. Furthermore, the work environment at the office is incredible. It’s a small Front Office, only 12 employees, but everyone is extremely nice and welcoming. It was really easy to connect with them at the beginning of my internship because of our mutual passion for sports.
Q: Any fun story or episode to share?
A: This upcoming 2017-2018 Season is the inaugural season for the Long Island Nets. Because of the event, the other interns and I have been responsible for spreading the word on the team to communities in Long Island. Some of the tasks we have done to achieve this goal include going to huge malls in the area and putting flyers on people’s front windows of their cars. Additionally, on National Sunglasses Day, we stood on the Long Beach boardwalk for hours handing out Long Island Nets branded sunglasses. It’s a lot of fun and great experiences.
