Bruce Wei graduated in 2016 with a Master’s of Science in Real Estate, with a concentration in Finance and Investment.  Today, he is an Acquisition Analyst for Thor Equities (New York).

What’s your favorite part of your work?

The best part of my work is doing underwriting for incoming deals by using Excel or ARGUS.  Finishing a complicated underwriting can give you a great sense of achievement.  And property tours are also interesting.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Managing expectations and delivering products before deadlines.

What does your average day look like?

9AM to 8PM usually.  Sometimes I will stay late at night during busy closing season.

What advice do you have for current students looking for jobs in your industry?

Reach out to alumni and professors in the industry and ask for advice.  Join real estate events held by Stern, Schack, and Wasserman.  Practice modeling in a limited time to get used to on-site modeling test.

What are some common misconceptions about your work?

Acquisition is not just touring properties and doing modeling.  Deep understanding of the asset is required, and you need to work closely with asset management and other teams in the company.
